Director, Product Management (Military Focus)

Job Location: A mix of Remote and in-person in Adelphi, Maryland

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks a Director, Product Management (Military Focus). The University of Maryland Global Campus is building a student and market focused product management group to help steer the strategic direction of the University.  The Director of Product Management will provide leadership for an assigned market segment or program area and develop the strategies and tactics to grow enrollments by meeting market and student needs.  The Director will lead cross-functional teams to implement these initiatives and programs and then launching them by executing both the marketing plans and operational plans to support their success. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:  

• Provide an external and customer focus.  Provide market intelligence to understand the market and trends, Perform competitive analysis and understand their positions. Be the eyes of the customer - students, employers, and communities. Help define target markets and audiences.  Analyze and conduct research to understand the market and be the window into the consumer for the organization. Leverage insights to identify gaps and opportunities in the market. 

• The Director will be assigned to specific Schools or Market segments. Based on the market analysis, UMGC strategic plans, and student needs, develop strategies and tactics to drive enrollment and revenue growth and make recommendations to executive management for these Schools or Market segments. Working across the organization, develop the business case, operational plan, and timetable for these strategies and tactics.

• Lead cross-functional teams to implement and launch these programs and initiatives.  Develop timetables and project manage from start to completion.  Work closely with the organization on the operational components of these initiatives, thinking through the processes, especially how it will impact our students' success. 

• The Directors will work closely with these organization to identify strategies and tactics, develop business case, and recommend and implement initiatives to grow these segments. 

• Provide marketing leadership, working closely with departments across the organization, including Academic departments, corporate partnerships, military, admissions, communications and provide a bridge the marketing, media, digital and web teams in the department.  Develop tracking and measurement processes to share information between groups to track progress and highlight opportunities.

• Provide a business perspective. Work closely with Financial Planning and Analysis to evaluate current our current markets and programs, as well as new initiatives and programs.

• Work closely with the Marketing and Admission Team (Media/Digital, Brand Marketing Communications, Web Strategy and Development and Admissions) and Communications Team to develop marketing plans to achieve the University targets. These plans will include all marketing components - from positioning and defining target markets to advertising, digital marketing, social media through pricing, partnerships and locations.  Work closely with these teams and the Analysis groups to create annual plans, ongoing measurement and making marketing adjustments. 

• Domestic and Foreign Travel (10%)

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. 

• Minimum 5 years in Marketing, Product Management, Brand Management experience.

• Minimum 1 years of supervisory experience.

• Ability for Domestic and Foreign Travel (10%).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Product or Brand Management experience with a proven ability to build brands and revenue.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.

• Strong marketing skills, experience with positioning, target markets and current marketing tools; including advertising, digital marketing and social media.  

• Significant experience with market research and data, to measure trends and gain insights.

• Strong financial acumen, ability to work with a P & L and measure impact of marketing programs.

• Proven ability to successfully project manage initiatives or product launches.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• MBA preferred.

• Minimum 7 years in Product or Brand Management experience.

• Minimum 1 years of supervisory experience. 

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Experience working with a sales or enrollment funnel with a thorough knowledge of funnel metrics/conversion and financial measurements.

• Experience in a regulated environment.

• Combination of experience in consumer packaged goods (CPG) and service in customer services Experience in Financial Services or Higher Education.
