University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach online in the Environmental Science and Management program. We are interested in scholar practitioners who want to share their experience and knowledge in the environmental management field with non-traditional students. Our courses span the range of environmental management, including pollution prevention, auditing, technologies, ecology, communications, and land, water, and air quality management. We are interested in environmental managers who want to engage with continual learning and have expertise to teach a variety of courses in environmental management. We would like scholar-practitioners from a wide variety of environmental management backgrounds to join our team and think critically about what it means to be effective environmental managers today and into the future.
Required Education and Experience
Master's degree in environmental health, sustainability, environmental engineering, ecology and earth sciences, environmental policy, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning. PhD or other terminal degree preferred.
Professional experience in the environmental field, including project management.
Certifications as QEP (Qualified Environmental Professional), CEA (Certified Environmental Auditor), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or other environmental management-related certifications are a plus.
Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.

The Adjunct Faculty Role at UMGC

Your role as an adjunct faculty member will be to:
Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
Provide feedback to your program director and course chair on possible curricular improvements.
