The Senior Curriculum Designer reports directly to the Senior Director of CBE & Curriculum Design within Digital Teaching and Learning. As a member of the CBE & Curriculum Design team, the Senior Curriculum Designer supports the University's mission by designing high quality, engaging, career-relevant curricula, both academic and noncredit, that enable adult learners to achieve their personal and professional goals. The Senior Designer plays an important role, in partnership with faculty and staff in the Schools, Course Development, and Academic Quality, in ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with the University's educational model.
The Senior Curriculum Designer supports Program Directors in developing program learning goals and competencies, translating their vision into an actionable design plan, and mapping curricula for academic and noncredit online programs. The Senior Curriculum Designer is conversant with policies, processes, standards, and governance structures that are relevant to this work and explains them, as necessary and appropriate, to internal and external stakeholders during the work.
The Senior Curriculum Designer is responsible for ensuring that Program Directors who are developing new academic or noncredit programs or significantly revising an existing program develop a solid set of foundational design documents and are well prepared to partner effectively with Course Development teams. Consequently, the Senior Curriculum Designer communicates regularly with counterparts in Course Development so that the two units' processes and documentation stay in sync and Program Directors are supported effectively. In addition, the Senior Curriculum Designer facilitates Program Directors' transition from working with the Curriculum Design unit to working with Course Development teams in the next stage of work.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide coaching and support to Program Directors and their teams for effective curriculum design, partnering with them to: develop academic and noncredit program learning goals and competencies/objectives; generate a program design “roadmap” with ideas for assessments, resources, authentic professional scenarios, etc.; map curricula; and employ data for purposes of curriculum design and revision.
Create self-service resources, such as guides and templates, that enable Program Directors and Collegiate Faculty to perform curriculum design activities in a manner that is consistent with the University's educational model, processes, policies, and standards, and reflects evidence-based best practices.
Rapidly research and synthesize information about a variety of disciplines and the factors influencing curriculum design requirements for programs and courses in those disciplines.
Collaborate effectively with colleagues in Digital Teaching and Learning, specifically the CBE & Curriculum Design unit and the Course Development unit, other units in Academic Affairs, and the three schools within the University to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with the university's learning model.
Manage academic projects through all stages, from initiation through closeout, and provide regular status reports.
Assist with cross-functional academic initiatives focused on topics such as academic quality and the use of educational technology.
Monitor trends and research pertaining to learning science, curriculum and learning design, higher education, industry certifications, and online learning
Support the University's centralized curriculum model.
Perform additional job duties as necessary and assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in Curriculum, Instructional Design, Learning Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience designing curricula for an online college/university, applying knowledge of instructional and curriculum design, learning theories, and learning technologies.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively to meet deadlines, prioritizing work effectively in a situation with shifting or competing priorities.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and from other units/departments in an organization.
Able and willing to work both independently and as a member of cross-functional teams.
Strong knowledge of intellectual property and Section 508 compliance issues in online education environments, backward design, Quality Matters standards, open educational resources, and competency- and project-based education, stackable credentials, modular curricula, personalized and adaptive learning, and MOOCs.
Proficiency using standard productivity and collaboration software (e.g., MS Office, MS Teams, Zoom) and learning management systems (e.g., D2L, Canvas, edX).
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree or higher in Curriculum, Instructional Design, Learning Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
A degree, postgraduate certificate, or industry certification related to data analytics, IT, cybersecurity, or a related field.
Proven ability to communicate effectively with subject matter experts in technical fields (e.g., IT and cybersecurity) and to “translate” technical issues for non-technical staff.
Demonstrated experience designing courses for both online and hybrid modalities.
Experience designing both credit-eligible degree programs and non-credit courses (e.g., training, certification prep, or continuing/professional education courses).
Experience creating one or more of the following: VR/AR simulations, interactive graphics, animations, interactive data visualizations.
Certification as a Quality Matters Peer Reviewer.
