Financial Modeling Analyst

Office of Financial Planning & Analysis

Stateside Exempt, Grade 3.3

Location: Remote (Occasional Travel to Adelphi, MD Required

The Financial Modeling Analyst will collaborate with the forecasting team to maintain, support, and create forecasting concept models that provide financial impacts of the institution's tuition revenue activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the institution's financial metrics through the terms, sessions, and student breakouts. This will involve understanding the lead flow process, and partnering with the Marketing, Analytics and FP&A teams to develop actionable insights and readouts ultimately shared with the COO and executive leadership.​ 

  • Support the monthly forecasting and fiscal year budgeting process.  This entails maintaining current forecast models, creating financial models for strategic initiatives and projects, and providing scenario analysis.  Determine areas of improvement, consolidation and automation of current processes and tools used for these efforts.

  • Provide insight into current activities that may lead to increased return on investment given the current performance of certain activities in relation to others and prior years. Conduct deep dives in student population datasets utilizing tools like Tableau, Excel, VBA, Access, SQL, and/or Python.  Coding knowledge is preferred to assist in maintaining current models and ability to identify automation potential across other models.

  • Use/modify current tools to assess the financial impact of new marketing initiatives, new product offerings determining breakeven, ROI positivity, and growth opportunities.

  • Aid in identifying the financial impact of current and new marketing and business strategies to determine the LTV of acquisition spend. Collaborate with the marketing and analytics teams to model financial impacts of the evolving/changing global marketing strategy.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Seven (7) years of experience in a financial analytics or operational analytics environment.

  • At least seven (7) years of financial/mathematical modeling experience 

  • Experience with assessing financial strategy, conducting impact analysis, creating dynamic models to support what-if scenarios

  • Experience in business process reengineering (BPR) to improve data workflow and existing models

  • Experience in building complex data models, fed from multiple data sources

  • Ability to automate, maintain and performance test financial models and their outputs

  • Ability to successfully complete multiple projects under tight time constraints 

  • Demonstrated presentation and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management 

  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills; and experience using Excel for managing data 

  • Experience optimizing data workflows and financial model sourcing

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.

  • Seven to ten years of experience.

  • Managing a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Excellent Excel, analytical and communication skills.

  • Experience in financial model building and maintenance including data sourcing and model readouts and performance testing - in industries like financial services, higher education, e-businesses, etc.

  • Skill in analyzing and recommending tailored financial solutions.

  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.

  • Ability to utilize financial models and planning systems effectively.

Hiring Range:

$116,000.00 - $131,000.00
