Senior Director of Sponsored Programs

Stateside, Exempt, Grade 4.2

Office of Government Affairs and External Relations

Location: Hybrid (Local DMV Preferred) Occasional Travel Required

The Senior Director Sponsored Programs is a senior-level position responsible for overseeing the acquisition, administration, and compliance of grants specifically for public grants as well as earmarks and congressional ads. This position provides strategic leadership and oversight for all grant and sponsored program activities. This role involves developing and implementing strategies for securing funding, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, and managing the lifecycle of grants and sponsored programs. The Senior Director collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support organizational goals and objectives through effective grant management and program development. This position is remote but may require travel to the UMGC headquarters in Adelphi Maryland. Travel expenses will be covered by UMGC.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Management:

  • Leads and implements comprehensive strategies for grant seeking and sponsored program management with special attention given to federal and state funding opportunities
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals and reports, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with funder requirements.
  • Supervise the Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs.
  • Serve as the liaison between the grants program and senior leadership (PSET)Works directly with leadership on all matters involving grants.
  • Works directly with the Vice President and the Senior Vice President to provide accurate data specific to grants
  • Develops and implements comprehensive strategies for grant seeking and sponsored program management.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations related to grants and sponsored programs.
  • Monitor and manage grant budgets, financial reports, and audit requirements, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

Administrative Oversight:

  • Leads the grants management team, including external consultants, writers, coordinators, and administrative staff.
  • Directly supervises the director of grants and sponsored programs
  • Prepares and whenever possible presentations
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to grant management and sponsored programs.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Provide training and support to staff on grant-related matters and best practices.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of grant programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Stay informed about trends and changes in the funding landscape and regulatory environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (required).
  • Master's degree or relevant certification (e.g., Certified Research Administrator) preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of seven years of experience in grant management specifically in public grants, including experience with grant writing, administration, and compliance work. Preference given to experience specific in public grants and other federal programs such as earmarks and congressional adds
  • Proven track record of successful grant acquisition and program management.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of grant regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting standards.
  • Proven track record of grants management
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Proficiency in grants management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Hiring Range:

$150,000.00 - $155,000.00
