Adelphi, MD (Hybrid up to 3 days in office required)

University of Maryland Global Campus is seeking a Communications Manager to support internal and external communications planning in the Office of Communications. This team member will serve as a key project management resource for functions within the office, including media relations, communications strategy, social media, and executive communications. They will also directly support the Vice President of Communications & Engagement with global channel planning, as well as ensuring the alignment of the team's work with the university's global communications strategy and Strategic Plan.

Primary Duties:

  • Serve as a communications liaison with business units across the organization, developing and implementing communications plans to engage internal and external stakeholders and advance the university's strategic priorities. - 50%
  • Collaborate with functional communications leads, including social media and media relations, to rapidly identify and translate emerging messaging and content opportunities into tactical deliverables aligned with the university's global communications strategy. - 20%
  • Maintain cross-team channel planning dashboard to deconflict publication dates and business activities, support the launch of team-wide communications plans, and curate content for team-owned platforms. - 20%
  • Builds, edits, and conducts presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint and other tools as needed. - 10%

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

Discipline/Major:

  • Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field

Experience:

  • Five years experience, in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong writing skills and the ability to quickly digest and translate complex information; Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to perform well both in team environments and individually; A solid understanding of key internal and external communications concepts; Demonstrated ability to plan and manage projects; Strong attention to detail

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in a public relations agency, communications team, or a journalism newsroom environment
  • Experience developing tactical communications plans for internal and/or external projects a plus; Experience creating and delivering presentations a plus
