Adelphi, MD (Hybrid up to 3 days in office required)

University of Maryland Global Campus is seeking a Communications Writer and Editor to support content and messaging development in the Office of Communications. This team member will write and edit news, feature, and business content for both internal and external channels. They will also serve as a key editorial resource for every function within the office, including media relations, communications strategy, social media, and executive communications.

Primary Duties:

  • Write and edit news and feature content for the university's Global Media Center, Achiever magazine, and employee intranet based on interviews with faculty, staff, students, and other university stakeholders. - 40%
  • Plan, curate, and edit the university's biweekly employee newsletter and monthly Leadership Briefing, working with business units throughout the organization to collect and revise news submissions for publications. - 30%
  • Provide writing and editing support across the organization as needed for business communications plans and deliverables, including but not limited to broadcast emails, talking points, and FAQs. - 30%

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

Discipline/Major:

  • Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field

Experience:

  • 5 Years Experience, in a writing and/or editing-focused role in a journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a proven ability to deliver clean copy on tight deadlines with minimal supervision; An understanding of newsroom-style story writing, including both feature and news content; Comfort working across multiple content management systems; Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to perform in both collaborative and individual settings; Keen attention to detail and an appetite for constructive criticism; A willingness to learn new forms and styles of content writing

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a newsroom environment, particularly in an editing role
  • Familiarity with writing talking points, memos, and/or other communications deliverables for an executive-level audience a plus
