Summary:

This is an opportunity to build and manage critical tools, processes, and systems that will support the ongoing success of our largest customers.  The Data Scientist will design and implement data collection and reporting systems to continuously enhance the quality and breadth of data-informed decisions and communications. Additionally, they will conduct analyses in order to inform day-to-day practice, drive strategy and policy, and monitor key program and student outcomes. The Data Scientist will also serve as the internal lead on accessing key data systems and will be responsible for managing on-demand data requests to answer key questions about the initiatives and operations of our largest customers. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop processes to systematically collect, archive, and report data. 

  • Work formatively with internal management around the development of appropriate analysis 

  • questions and meaningful performance indicators. 

  • Analyze and visualize data on a project basis to enhance understanding of and usage by key stakeholders. 

  • Collaborate with internal program staff around all analysis activities. 

  • Prepare and disseminate analysis reports, briefs, and presentations; communicate results meaningfully to various audiences both internal and external. 

  • Engage in capacity building with internal staff around using data to inform practice and 

  • strategy. 

  • Analyze system data, handle data requests and special analyses, and provide data and reports to external partners. 

  • Assist in determining key future analyses and metrics based on findings from external research, literature reviews, and collaboration with external partners.  

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate analysis findings, both written and orally, to a broad range of audiences including field staff, internal management, senior leadership, funders, and researchers. Excellent communication skills are essential. 

  • Ability to conduct multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of a team. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to multiple constituencies, and meet established deadlines. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including T-SQL querying and the use of other software such as SPSS or SAS.  

  • Proficient and creative data visualization abilities. 

  • Exceptional written, verbal, organizational, and technology skills. 

  • Ability to conduct multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of a collaborative team.  Able to balance competing priorities and deadlines. 

  • Compile and organize findings in graphs, charts, mock-ups, and diagrams. 

  • A track record of success as demonstrated by superior academic and professional achievement. 

  • Intense intellectual curiosity and desire to get to the root cause. 

  • Team player, comfortable working with a variety of people and capable of leading a group toward a common goal. 

  • Ability to function effectively in a large, complex organization. 

  • Ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps 

Education & Experience Requirements:

Experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience developing and conducting data analysis and reporting. 

  • Knowledge of educational research and urban educational systems is beneficial. 

  • Experience with diverse technology stacks and adaptability are strongly preferred. 

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau desired. 

  • Experience with statistical tools such as R, SAS, MatLab, scipy (python) desired. 

  • Familiarity with sociological research methods is a bonus.

  • Bachelor's Degree

Experience

  • Prior project management experience and/or experience in education preferred.

Hiring Range:

$250,000.00 - $270,000.00
