Summary:

The Learning Technology Manager will lead learning technology implementation for UMGC's Learning and Innovation team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate deeply with UMGC's learning design and academic teams and leaders to understand the needs of students and instructors.

  • Serve as a learning technology thought leader and problem solver, helping UMGC's academic teams make the best use of their learning management system. Translate teaching and learning needs into technical plans and specifications.

  • Partner closely with UMGC's assigned learning technology consultants.

  • Manage and deliver the implementation of learning technology, evaluating and integrating technology products and features into the UMGC classroom experience.

  • Lead the successful integration of learning technology solutions through a variety of methods, including LMS features, LTI, single-sign-on, and content-based solutions. Serve as a leader in identifying the appropriate method and plans for each implementation. 

  • Maintain a deep and up-to-date knowledge of D2L's feature set including expertise in implementing D2L's various features, D2L's feature roadmap as well as how D2L interoperates with other technologies.

  • Operate as a respected leader, product owner, and subject matter expert on learning technologies, including Brightspace by D2L, for UMGC's academic teams.

  • Oversee the strategic alignments for communications and presentations on utilizing instructional technology features.

  • Partner with UMGC academic leadership to align UMGC's teaching and learning roadmap with D2L's features roadmap. Collaborate with Agile Digital Platform team professionals and leadership stakeholders to ensure solution planning for projects is properly aligned to mutual partner university and organizational pillars.

  • Ensure team delivery of detailed specifications for proposed solutions including documentation, time, and scope involved.

  • Establish a framework for necessary contributions from various departments, stakeholders, and users while facilitating their collaboration.

  • Manage technical configuration administration, team process documentation for operations, and monitor requirements needed to institute proposed updates in relation to the learning experience.

  • Lead project management teams to implement delivery plans and solution implementation initiatives that align to strategic pillars.

  • Account for possible project challenges or constraints and proactively seek to manage challenges and communication across departments and organizations.

Skills:

  • Exhibit a passion for new technologies and educational innovation

  • 5 - 7+ years' experience administering, designing solutions for, and/or configuring D2L environments preferably at institutions of higher education 

  • Deep understanding of instructional design best practices

  • Excellent verbal communications and collaboration skills

  • Experience developing requirements for system reports, system configuration, integrations, and regression testing.

  • Excellent technical writing abilities

  • Able to utilize many different channels and methods of communication to gain support for innovative solutions across stakeholder groups

  • Experience identifying potential risks and opportunities, and root cause analysis, with expertise in systems level problem solving 

  • Able to work independently and on a team 

  • Able to quickly learn new technologies and systems both internal and external to the organization

  • Able to concurrently manage multiple projects, required tasks, and deadlines 

Preferred Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

Experience:

  • Experience implementing and operating LCMS platforms

  • Functional knowledge of HTML, HTML5, and CSS 

  • Experience in Agile development methodology

Hiring Range:

$85,000.00 - $95,300.00
