Location: Adelphi, Maryland

The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking a Senior DEI Manager and Investigator with higher education experience to strategically administer the University's investigation process pertaining to allegations of discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation in compliance with university policies, federal and state laws, and to serve as a DEI training and programming specialist. The Senior DEI Manager and Investigator will collaborate with DEI leaders and other stakeholders within the university to provide subject matter expert recommendations on a variety of university initiatives and projects. The Senior DEI Manager and Investigator is expected to demonstrate a strong ability in critical thinking, exhibit tact and diplomacy in communication (verbal and written), and the ability to conduct a thorough and equitable investigation of discrimination and harassment complaints. This position will report to the Associate Vice President for Institutional Equity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare clear, comprehensive, and concise written reports of investigative findings that analyze the facts gathered against university policies, state and federal laws, and regulations. 

  • Conduct Equal Opportunity(Title VII) and Title IX fact-finding interviews assessing the credibility, of complainants, respondents, and relevant witnesses; analysis of documentary evidence; serve as a neutral party through all aspects of the investigative process; and ensure equitable treatment of all parties.

  • Use subject matter expertise to provide leadership, and expert consultation and deliver targeted training and awareness programming to address diversity, equity, and inclusion concerns to include but not limited to diversity/inclusion awareness, sexual misconduct, discrimination, and harassment prevention.

  • Lead/manage key projects and initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Assist in the development and implementation of university protocols, procedures, policies, training, and outreach related to diversity, equity, and inclusion including anti-discrimination and anti-harassment laws, policies, and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to developing relationships across multiple teams at all levels of the university, working on project teams and multiple work streams in a changing environment; providing recommendations to strengthen key diversity, equity, and inclusion deliverables across the institution to eliminate discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

  • Support the Title IX Coordinator in developing and presenting training on UMGC's Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures, as well as other related policies and procedures supporting non-discrimination at the University.

  • Oversee online training and assist in handling the contract for online training of faculty, staff, and students.

  • Work with the Title IX Coordinator to ensure continued University compliance with federal and state laws related to nondiscrimination and sexual misconduct training and prevention programming.

  • Assist the Title IX Coordinator with responding to Title IX Disclosures

  • Support Title IX Coordinator by tracking, monitoring, and analyzing data to produce Title IX Reports.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Communications, English, Prelaw, Program Management, Human Resources, Public Policy, Ethnic Studies)

  • Minimum of three years of higher education investigation experience, which may include, but is not limited to, workplace, human resources, discrimination, and/or legal investigations.

  • Minimum of three years managing projects.

  • Minimum of two years as a coach or trainer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to assess and investigate complaints of sex, gender, race, national origin, disability, age, etc. Experience conducting sensitive and confidential investigations. Strong analytical, writing, and critical thinking skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Preferred:

Master's or other post-graduate education
