Learning Technologist, Integrative Learning Design  

Office of Integrative Learning Design 

Exemp C2, Full-Time, Pay Grade 1.3 

Location: Remote  

The Learning Technologist (LT) is responsible for assisting in the development of contextually rich, engaging, and objective-driven courses that focus on applicable real-world/workplace skills. The LTs will build superior online courses that are supported by research-based best practices in online learning using a variety of technologies to develop innovative learning experiences that effectively reach a diverse audience of UMGC learners. Responsibilities include evaluating blueprints and storyboards to develop on-screen solutions that optimize each lesson's organizational flow, user experience, engagement, and visual representation. A strong background in learning design, user experience, visual design, accessibility, and technical expertise in various course authoring tools is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage the build process for new courses and learning experiences and attend to continuous improvement and technology innovations of assigned projects and courses.

  • Follow the guidance and ensure consistent application of UMGC's new learning model as well as sound instructional and interface design to the development of projects.

  • Implement required course updates and upgrades based on quality assurance and continuous improvement reviews.

  • Ensure the quality of the visual and functional design of courses and assessments.

  • Maintain a complete understanding of all UMGC learning and assessment tools and resources. Stay informed about updates, changes, retiring assets, innovations, and opportunities related to selected platforms and delivery tools and processes.

  • Work with project managers and other team members to ensure all deadline dates for assigned projects are met throughout the design and development process.

  • Assist with identifying and resolving technology-related challenges to the online delivery of content and assessments.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in instructional technology, instructional design, educational technology, or related field required. A Master's Degree in one of these fields is highly preferred.

  • At least 2 years of experience in course development, educational technology, instructional technology, or a similar field in a higher education environment.

  • Current, solid knowledge of instructional design and learning theory, including adult learning theory.

  • Current, solid knowledge of instructional technologies or learning platforms as well as multimedia design principles.

  • Thorough knowledge of learning management systems and teaching tools, and an excellent understanding of processes and standards for planning and implementing the instructional design in an LMS.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at different stages while meeting deadlines and quality standards.

  • Experience with and knowledge of best practices around Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and ADA, and their requirements related to online course delivery

  • Awareness and understanding of the importance of copyright compliance in the creation of assets and online course content.

  • Appreciation and understanding of student success and retention for creating technology that supports learners through student-centered design.

  • Experience with existing quality standards for course design.

  • Knowledge of major third-party content libraries and how to incorporate existing content for rapid learning solution deployment.

  • Experience designing courses within an LMS (D2L/Brightspace preferred).

  • Certification in Quality Matters, OLC, or other similar online course quality standards.

  • Basic video production and post-production using software such as Camtasia, and iMovie.

  • Knowledge of best practices for supporting and/or integrating Open Educational Resources.

  • Experience managing projects in a remote/distributed environment.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a high-quality, results-driven, team-oriented environment.

Benefits Package Highlights:

  • Generous Time Off: Enjoy 22 days of paid vacation, 15 days of sick leave, 3 personal days, and 15 paid holidays (16 during general election years). Time off rates will be prorated based on the number of hours worked.

  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Access to health care, medical with vision, dental, and prescription plans for both individuals and families, effective from the 1st of the month following your hire date. Contingent II employees who work on average 30 or more hours per week (130 hours per month) are eligible for subsidized state of Maryland medical and prescription benefits. Contingent II employees who work on average less than 30 hours per week but at least 20 hours per week are eligible for a stipend to assist in the purchase of a health plan.

  • Insurance Options: Term Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, and Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance. NOTE: C2 Part-time employees working less than 0.5 FTE are not eligible for LTD.

  • Retirement Stipend:  Contingent II employees receive a retirement stipend equal to 7.25 percent of their base salary and are eligible to contribute to a supplemental retirement account (SRA).

  • Supplemental Retirement Plans: include 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), and various Roth options. The university does not provide subsidies or matching funds.

  • Tuition Remission:  CII employees are eligible immediately for Tuition Remission at UMGC or at University of Maryland College Park.  Spouses and dependent children are eligible for undergraduate tuition remission after two years of service. NOTE: For part-time employees (at least 50 percent of the time), tuition remission benefits are prorated.

$55,000.00 - $65,000.00
