The Faculty Manager to co-lead endeavors for enhancing the instructional faculty life cycle. The Manager will be a key leader in enhancing the faculty life cycle and fostering the success of instructional faculty, with an emphasis on faculty hiring, recruitment and onboarding.  This role is central to enhancing faculty capabilities through the creation and management of a comprehensive faculty support ecosystem. The Manager will be responsible for fostering an environment that prioritizes faculty engagement, supports a diverse student body, and promotes academic excellence.

The Manager will work collaboratively with the Faculty Development/Training Specialist, managers, faculty affairs, the project team, and other institutional units and stakeholders to implement and monitor the Instructional Faculty Professional Development and Support Ecosystem. Specifically, the Manager will coordinate the tasks and activities within the scope of the initiative, ensure open and ongoing communication and collaboration across all parties engaged in the work, align initiative data management and reporting to the project governance and report cadences, and provide direction and oversight to establish the comprehensive system and schedule of faculty training work.

The Manager role is funded through a grant from the Gates Foundation. The grant lasts 4 years and funding for this role is tied to that grant. This role, in partnership with the Faculty Development/Training Specialist, will be responsible for the integration of the “Instructional Faculty Professional Development and Support Ecosystem” project initiative within the grant, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with the university's other DEI and strategic projects.

Primary Duties:

  • Assess and review instructional faculty recruitment, interviewing, and hiring processes.  Develop instructional faculty job description, interview protocol, position announcement solicitation and protocol for screening instructional faculty to align with the foundational faculty expectations/requirements. 
  • Serve as key liaison for enhancing the Faculty Management System (FMS) and maintaining accurate records of faculty credentials and qualifications.   Organize and manage documentation related to faculty hiring, rank and promotions, in conjunction with Faculty Appointments. 
  • In consultation with HR, develop and implement a plan to attract a more diverse faculty pool. 
  • Analyze recruitment strategies and processes to identify areas for improvement, ensuring the institution attracts and retains top talent. Identify opportunities to streamline credentialing processes and improve efficiency. 
  • Develop reports and presentations related to the grant initiatives and monitor and track metrics associated with grant outcomes for faculty hiring and onboarding.

Required Education and Experience:

4-year college degree

Discipline/Major:

Education, Organizational Development, or a related field

Experience:

3 to 5 years (1 to 3 years supervisory)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proven experience in faculty development, academic administration, or a similar role. Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic context. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the institution. Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives that result in measurable improvements in faculty engagement and student success.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Masters or other post-graduate education, Advanced degree in Education, Organizational Development, or a related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of higher education and keen understanding and experience with working with diverse student population and adult learners.  Experience with report creation, presentation development and delivery and data collection and analysis.

  • Tuition Remission:  CII employees are eligible immediately for Tuition Remission at UMGC or at University of Maryland College Park.  Spouses and dependent children are eligible for undergraduate tuition remission after two years of service. NOTE: For part-time employees (at least 50 percent of the time), tuition remission benefits are prorated.

$75,000.00 - $85,000.00
