University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach remotely in the School of Cybersecurity. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following courses:

Defensive Cyberspace Operations (CYOP 380):

A hands-on, lab-intensive course in defensive cyberspace operations designed to guide learners on how to protect cyberspace capabilities from malicious activity and imminent threats. The objective is to defend cyberspace assets including data, systems, networks, and the Internet. Topics include threat intelligence and analysis, risk assessment and mitigation, intrusion detection and prevention, incident response and recovery, vulnerability management, network defense architecture, security information and event management (SIEM), cyber defense operations planning, and legal and ethical considerations in defensive cyberspace operations.

Offensive Cyberspace Operations (CYOP 420):

A hands-on, deep dive into the tools, techniques and constraints associated with creating and executing an offensive cyberspace operations campaign. The goal is to target adversary cyberspace functions to impact high-valued targets within a controlled secure environment. Topics include reconnaissance and intelligence gathering, vulnerability analysis and exploitation, malware development and deployment, offensive tool development, social engineering, network exploitation, and legal and ethical constraints in offensive cyberspace operations.

Cyberspace Operations Automation (CYOP 480):

A project-based course exploring the efficient use of tools and techniques to automate tasks associated with cyberspace operations. The objective is to embrace and use technology, automation, and innovation to defend critical infrastructure and minimize the time required to deliver new capabilities. Topics include log file analysis, automation in threat intelligence, artificial intelligence (AI) in cyberspace operations, continuous monitoring and automated alerts, penetration testing and exploitation, vulnerability scanning and management, script development, infrastructure-as-code (IAC), and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).

Introduction to Cyber Operations (CYOP 605): A hands-on introduction to the strategies, principles, and technologies essential to defending modern networks and information systems. The objective is to evaluate and maintain systems that are resilient and trustworthy in a dynamic threat landscape and to meet specific mission security objectives. An overview of cyber defense is provided. Topics include fundamental principles of cybersecurity and vulnerabilities and risk management of information systems.

Networking and Communication Technologies (CYOP 615):

An in-depth exploration of the concepts, techniques, and tools required to design, secure, and manage complex networks and cloud infrastructures. The objective is to evaluate how networks function at the infrastructure, network, and application layers. Unique security considerations, such as vulnerabilities, encryption, and cloud workload deployment, are examined across multiple network environments. Topics include the protocols that enable communication and data transfer, networking, cellular and mobile technologies, wireless security, cloud security, and cloud computing.

Legal, Ethical, and Forensics Foundations (CYOP 625):

A hands-on, project-based exploration of the legal and ethical frameworks for conducting all aspects of cyber operations. The objective is to demonstrate a deep understanding of the legal frameworks and ethical guardrails governing cyber activities and participate in ethical hacking activities and digital forensics and cyber investigation.¿ Discussion covers the processes for identifying and recovering forensic artifacts left by cyberattacks and the ways systems and applications can be subverted. Topics also include the legal and ethical foundations of cyber operations and digital forensics. 

Computing and Mathematics for Cyber Operations (CYOP 635):

A hands-on, practical study of the computing and mathematical concepts that support the technical aspects of cybersecurity.¿ The objective is to demonstrate the practical skills and abilities needed to solve difficult problems in cybersecurity and systems programming, address advanced cybersecurity challenges, and contribute to the secure development and maintenance of complex computing environments. Topics include low-level programming languages, operating system theory, discrete math, and algorithms, and applied cryptography. 

Required Education and Experience

• Masters degree in Cyber Operations or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.

• Professional experience in Cyber Operations or related fields.

• Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.

• This position is specifically to teach online.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Terminal degree in Cyber Operations or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.

• At least several years of experience in Cyber Operations, professional and/or academic.

• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.

• Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.

• Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
