Director of Student Services and Initiatives

Location: Primarily located at the Regional Administrative Headquarters, Kaiserslautern, Germany with occasional travel required.

The Director of Student Services and Initiatives (SIS) will be a member of the senior staff within their UMGC division and will report directly to the Associate Vice President and Deputy Director. The Director SIS will collaborate effectively with other units across the division and the university to support divisional efforts and advance UMGC's academic operational priorities and student services. This role will also be responsible for recruiting, supervising, developing, and supporting assigned staff. Additionally, the Director SIS will deliver creative and innovative solutions to enhance student initiatives and services, ensuring the best possible student experience within the UMGC division being supported.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Lead and develop high-quality, responsive, and flexible student support teams responsible for admissions, registration, financial aid, and scholarship services within the division.

  • Oversee the division's Student Services operations, including Admission Services, Military Portals, Financial Aid/Veteran's Affairs, Student Retention, and Career Services and collaborate with Accessibility Services to ensure compliance, efficiency, and student-centered service delivery.

  • Supervise department staff and manage a range of student-related operational processes, including incoming and outgoing transcripts, grade posting and changes, graduation tracking, academic exceptions, service indicators, and enrollment eligibility.

  • Collaborate with UMGC headquarters in Adelphi, MD, and with other departments/ divisions to align student initiatives and support strategies across the institution.

  • Partner with internal departments within the Division such as Academic Affairs, Enrollment Operations, Regional Directors, Academic Advisors, and Business Office staff to enhance student experience and operational effectiveness.

  • Support students in emergency situations via UMGC's REACT process, those with learning disabilities, and/or the need for accommodations.

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of Commencement activities, leading the student communications and organization portion of the annual event and support the regions with their local commencement ceremonies as needed.

  • Participate in global committees and cross-functional teams to support university-wide student support initiatives.

  • Guide departmental involvement and collaboration with the Enrollment Operations department in cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing student success outcomes.

  • Develop, maintain, and update the division Catalog, curriculum planning sheets, etc. as related to student information and support. Work with the division's Marketing Department as needed to ensure students receive timely information and outreach.

  • Provide guidance to division leadership on student-related policies, regulations, and program requirements.

  • Work with the division's Director of Institutional Research and AVPO to conduct student surveys, focus groups, and field site visits.

  • Work with the division's Training Manager to ensure field staff have the Student Services-related training they need for their positions.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign degree equivalent

  • Experience in student affairs, or similar in a higher education institution

  • Senior level management skills and experience.

  • Knowledge of applicable student databases, computer application systems and document management systems

  • Successful applicants must be able to pass a background check and meet requirements for individual logistic support (ILS)

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • In addition to the requirements above, successful experience working in an overseas military educational environment.

WHO MAY APPLY:  Local candidates with ILS preferred. Criteria under which applicants qualify for ILS are: must serve the US Forces exclusively; are not stateless persons; are nationals of a NATO state, excluding the host nation; are not ordinarily resident in the host nation.

Hiring Range:

$81,000.00 - $89,000.00

Additional Compensation:

Employees receive the applicable currency adjustment (CAX) subject to monthly DoD COLA Index for the work location, which is subject to change and fluctuation based on market indices.
