Job Location: Shaw AFB, SC

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks a Military Education Coordinator at Shaw AFB and Fort Jackson in the Office of Stateside Military Operations. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Military Education Coordinator will work closely with the military education offices to manage and offer classes to military, veteran, and civilian students. The Military Education Coordinator is responsible for the outreach efforts and in-depth academic advising knowledge of the university. Occasional evening and weekend hours and local traveling to other regional offices are required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Maintain communication with appropriate department or immediate supervisor for resolution of student issues as needed

  • Maintain open and positive communications with host military Education Services Officer and respective staff while relaying all strategically critical information to the immediate supervisor

  • Display positive customer service toward students, guests, and colleagues within and outside of the university

  • Provide appropriate marketing, advertising, and mass media materials targeted to locations as requested

  • Participate in UMUC Military Education Coordinator Forums and training opportunities as required

  • Occasionally attend special events on weekends, such as Open House Events, Graduation or rotate with other staff members to provide assistance to instructors and students on the first day of class on a week night or weekend

  • This position could be required to travel to NS Mayport on weekly basis

  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel to other UMUC sites as needed.

  • An interest in education and training, strong oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required.

  • Applicant must be able to handle difficult situations with professionalism and tact.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Must have the ability and technical skills to use multiple interfaces proficiently and quickly, to include Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Effective and adept written and verbal communication skills as job responsibilities include regularly reaching out to prospective and current students as well as internal and external stakeholders.

  • Generous Time Off: Enjoy 22 days of paid vacation, 15 days of sick leave, 3 personal days, and 15 paid holidays (16 during general election years). Time off rates will be prorated based on the number of hours worked.

Contingent II employees who work on average 30 or more hours per week (130 hours per month) are eligible for subsidized state of Maryland medical and prescription benefits. Contingent II employees who work on average less than 30 hours per week but at least 20 hours per week are eligible for a stipend to assist in the purchase of a health plan.

  • Insurance Options: Term Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, and Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance. NOTE: C2 Part-time employees working less than 0.5 FTE are not eligible for LTD.

  • Retirement Stipend:  Contingent II employees receive a retirement stipend equal to 7.25 percent of their base salary and are eligible to contribute to a supplemental retirement account (SRA).

  • Supplemental Retirement Plans: include 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), and various Roth options. The university does not provide subsidies or matching funds.

  • Tuition Remission:  CII employees are eligible immediately for Tuition Remission at UMGC or at University of Maryland College Park.  Spouses and dependent children are eligible for undergraduate tuition remission after two years of service. NOTE: For part-time employees (at least 50 percent of the time), tuition remission benefits are prorated.
